The wigs, capes and makeup required for killer cosplay can hit the wallet hard. Well, unless you're the guys behind the budget-friendly project Lowcost Cosplay.
The project documents one man's creative and absurd attempts at costumes made from pillows, sheets and other everyday items
Lowcost Cosplay is the brainchild of three friends from Thailand. Anucha Sangchat models the costumes while Satjapong Thongchiasri and Purint Huangsamut moderate the project's Facebook page.
Thongchiasri told Mashable that he and Sangchat are longtime friends who came up with the idea for Lowcost Cosplay about a year ago. They agreed that expensive, perfectly-constructed cosplay costumes lack imagination, and instead set out to create funny and original costumes from reusable materials.
Since posting their first costume on Facebook about 10 months ago on Sangchat's personal account, the project has gained thousands of followers. Lowcost Cosplay's page currently stands at nearly 91,000 likes and growing.
But for these guys, the project is still about having fun with cosplay without going broke in the process. Thongchiasri says Lowcost Cosplay abides by the following code: "Cheap, but inspired."
