How to get an accurate impression of job candidates.
With an objective of increasing assessment accuracy , here are some tips for both candidates and interviewers:-
1.JUST THE FACTS
Too many candidates speak in generalities. These are having no value,but facts do. Candidates needs to be prepared to give all the specific details about each of their accomplishment. Interviewers need to dig for this information.
2.GIVE AND GET SMART EXAMPLES.
3.GO NARROW AND DEEP vs BROAD AND SHALLOW
Candidates need to give lots of detailed information. This is more valuable than asking a bunch of scattered questions.
4.FOCUS ON WHAT’S IMPORTANT BY TARGETING LISTENING
A good interviewer listens four times more than talking by asking targeting questions. Being a candidate ,ask the person to describe main job challenges. this will focus on what’s important.
5.SKIP THE HYPERBOLE
Don’t use the terms ‘unique’ or ‘awesome’ when describing a job. Don’t say that you’re strong,motivated,dedicated or a great leader or whatever unless you are having a proof. Let the interviewer determine you on the basis of examples you present. And always be natural in an interview.
